Oppression gave birth to individualism. And individualism is oppression's most mature form, for it convinces us to oppress ourselves, and severs the social and communal bonds that are natural to human beings.

Individualism is the foundation of capitalism. Capitalism could not exist without the fiction that we are isolated, self-contained individuals. The myth of the "I" existing in a vacuum.

But there is no "I" apart from the collective. Everything you are was shaped by those who came before, is being molded by the present, and will in turn help shape what comes next.

We are social beings. We are collective beings. Everything humanity has ever achieved that is worth celebrating was born of this truth.
